The mission of Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) is to start, sustain, and strengthen LCMS ministries through financial and strategic partnerships. In 1,000 words or less, reflect on this mission statement and describe how you have experienced or witnessed the impact of ministry within the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).  Looking ahead, how do you envision using your own gifts and talents, as well as your chosen field of study, to contribute to the future of LCMS ministries, whether by starting something new, sustaining existing efforts, or strengthening areas in need?

Terms and Conditions

The recipient of this scholarship award will be notified by Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF), and a scholarship award presentation will be given at the recipient’s home congregation. Funds are awarded to be used to defray expenses for tuition, room and board, books, laboratory expenses and/or related educated expenditures. The award amount will be deposited into the recipient’s LCEF StewardAccount. If a recipient does not have a StewardAccount, the student will be required to open a StewardAccount and the scholarship funds will serve as the opening balance. The amount awarded will be taxable as ordinary income to the recipient to the extent it is not used for “qualified tuition and related expenses” under Section 117 of the Internal Revenue Code. Some expenses, such as room and board, will not qualify. The recipient should consult with his or her tax advisor regarding what expenses are “qualified tuition and related expenses” and to determine whether any part of the award will be taxable. Children of LCEF employees are not eligible. If the recipient misrepresents any information, LCEF reserves the right to revoke the scholarship.
